Book Club
Building on the success of STEPTutoring, Book Clubs take place on the front porches in the neighborhood throughout the summer. The endeavor began in 2004 to help keep reading standards high when school is not in session. This collaboration of community minded volunteers, the DC Metropolitan Police Department and STEPdc helps to serve as a strong visible presence within the community. One-on-one mentorship with volunteers encourages the love of reading, vocabulary development and improved reading comprehension. In 2008, we added two new book clubs, one on Capitol Hill and another in NE.
